Apply yourself

Design Director

We’re looking for a Design Director who believes in the power of big ideas to inspire unique brands.

About the role

As a Design Director at Ragged Edge, you’ll play an instrumental role in a range of creative projects.

You’ll deliver hands-on creative solutions yourself and curate contributions from the wider team. Aiming to bring the best out of everyone, including designers, writers, strategists, and client managers. Pushing the work forward at every stage.

You’ll be responsible for a range of projects, including brand creation, rebrands, and other creative challenges that span digital and physical design. You’ll inspire clients and creative teams to be brave. And you’ll create work that creates change.

We’re looking for someone who cares less about what is, and more about what could be.

We’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive environment where everyone can feel appreciated for who they are and supported in their personal and professional growth. We encourage applications from people who may not necessarily ‘fit’ the typical branding agency mould. We’re looking for creative people looking for something different, because we are too.

While we have a flexible approach to remote working, we have a studio-first culture. With everyone on the team spending a minimum of 24 hours a week in the studio.

About you

You’re inherently optimistic about what’s possible.

You’re curious and willing to learn.

You’re a solutions-focused problem-solver by default.

You have experience contributing to, and building a supportive and inspiring team environment.

You’ve created distinctive brands that stand out and defy conventions.

You’re comfortable delving into the unknown and leading a project to its fullest conclusion.

You have experience building relationships and partnerships with your clients.

You’re passionate about big ideas and storytelling, as well as the minutiae of design craft.

You embrace new technologies, software and ideas, and are excited about building them into your creative process.

You thrive whether in front of colleagues or clients.

Your talent comes without ego, and you see collaboration across disciplines as a way to make the work stronger.

We want every person to feel as comfortable as possible in this process so here’s a run-down of how it might look and feel.

If there are any doubts you have or any adjustments you need, please just let us know.

Step 1
Online submission

Start by introducing yourself and your experience, explaining why you want to join our team. Please include your CV, and, if you’re applying for a creative role, some examples of your work.

Join our team
Step 2
Getting to know you

If you’ve caught our attention, we’d love to jump on a call. This will be with a member of the People & Culture Team. A chance for us to get to know you better and understand what it is that excites you most.

Step 3
In-person interview

At this stage, you’ll meet with a relevant Team Head or Manager at our London studio. Giving you a feel for Ragged Edge in the flesh. Here we want to catch a glimpse of how you think and your approach to work, so please bring along some examples to speak through.

Step 4
Final creative share

Following a phone check-in and briefing, you’ll be invited back to our studio to present your creative share. This is an opportunity to take us deeper into your thought processes. As well as the successes and missteps that got you here. Collaboration is key, so we’ll invite 5 or 6 members of different teams to join you in the room too.

Hints for difference
Be authentically you

Your ways of thinking mean more to us than where you worked last. We’re looking for talent at its most genuine.

Know your work

No one does better than you. Prepare to go deep into how you formed an idea or reached a conclusion. We want to be taken along for those rides.

Stay curious

We don’t find difference when we go with the flow. We find it when we ask difficult questions. Think about what you want to know from us and why.

Help us help you

Less of a hint, more of an ask. But could we have done better? Let us know in the feedback sessions. We love to listen.
