Monzo committed to becoming even more Monzo. With an identity system to make magic at scale.

Monzo was founded in 2015 with a simple mission: to reinvent banking. Six years and six million customers later they’d built a genuinely game changing product, and a brand to match, encapsulated by their iconic hot coral card. 

But with ambitions to scale across products and into profitability, we helped them take their visual identity to the next level. The approach? Make Monzo even more Monzo.

A new identity system for Monzo, created to live inside and outside the product. And a suite of 90 illustrations that scale across every part of the experience

The project was one of a broad range of initiatives that led to Monzo achieving profitability for the first time in 2024, doubling its revenues to £880 million in the process.

Define

Monzo is a feeling as much as it is a bank. Our challenge was to amplify and exaggerate that feeling in a way that could scale across every part of the experience.

Create

Working in partnership with Monzo’s talented brand team, we redesigned the whole identity system to capture Monzo’s magic, and retain the brand’s signature simplicity as it grows.

Colour

The hot coral is Monzo’s most distinctive asset. So we made it even hotter. A new set of secondary colours deliver the brand’s signature optimism across every part of the experience.

The illustrations

We worked with Ola Dobrzyńska to create a suite of 90 charmingly distinctive illustrations. From simplifying complex messages to bigging up brighter moments, each one combines function with an unmistakable flair.

The different reality

The in-house team took the system and applied it across the Monzo experience. Meanwhile the business continues to go from strength to strength, reaching profitability for the first time in 2024, and doubling its revenue to £880 million in the process.
