Two D&AD pencils for our writing work

Max Ottignon

We added a couple of pencils to our case at the 2021 D&AD Awards. After being shortlisted for four, we brought home a graphite pencil for our Mylo rebrand, and wood for East London Liquor Co. Both for Brand Voice.

Words matter

We’ve always wanted to change the role of writers in branding. From filling in Lorem Ipsum to being a fundamental part of the process.

That’s meant building a writing team, and a process, from scratch. But it’s also meant changing how we think about writing internally. As you can see from the work, the writing can’t happen in isolation. It’s a collaborative, ideas-led process where the creative team works as one. I wrote about this here, back in 2019.

So picking up two pencils for Brand Voice (we were the only agency to do so) felt like a big moment. External validation of a process that’s been years in the making.

We won wood for our words on East London Liquor Co

We were awarded a wood pencil for Writing for Design, Brand Voice and were shortlisted for Typography, Integrated and Packaging Design, Rebrand. Here’s the full case study.

We won graphite for our straight-talking tone on fertility brand Mylo

Our rebrand for Mylo, which included a new name, won a Graphite pencil for Writing for Design, Brand Voice.
